Spring Has Sprung (mid 90's)

Post by The Mindless Philosopher »

Spring has sprung (but not with a vengeance). 90F today (March 29). Tomorrow's high is supposed to be 95. Curious to see if we'll hit 122 again this summer? The warmest I'm willing to ride in is about 115. Had a few tastes of 120+ last year.

Best off wearing light sleeves, gloves, and a full face helmet in that kind of heat with the visor popped up a little for circulation. That might sound counter-intuitive, but it beats the daylights out of feeling direct sunlight and that raw heat coming off the asphalt, especially in a headwind.

A frigid, full CamelBak going and coming is a must. It helps having storage space for an extra gallon of drinking water just in case, as I've experienced having to push the beast in 110F.

Just another day in the life here in the good ole desert southwest in the U.S. of A.

At the rate I'm going, I might not be on the road again until 104-110F hits. Even so, I'll be out there doing it every chance I get.

Still looking forward to the day when I can stop fixin' and start putting real miles behind me! Here are a few pic's I use to help keep me looking forward to the wait to be over.

Mindless Philosopher,
I ride in the desert a lot also and if you want to talk about doing something that sounds counter-intuitive it would be the jeans I wear for riding. As you know, when riding with normal jeans the heat from the Chevy 350 engine is very hot. So, I bought a pair of Carhart FRB 160 DNM (thick Firefighter Jeans). It is amazing how much cooler it is riding with these heavy jeans. If you try it you will like it.

No record at all. Quite normal for our little armpit of civilization. Death Valley, California barely edges us out. They are king of the heap for consistent flaming heat.

I'll have to try those out. I've never heard of them. I was wondering about the Duluth Firehose Pants, though. I wonder if they're the same thing?
