Latest Project
I finished this for a friend yesterday. This was going to be the one I was going to build for my brother, but we lost him last year.

Carl is there anything you can't do?? That is beautiful. I don't believe I have ever heard a cigar box guitar. Maybe you can record a tune for us to hear it???

Re: Latest Project
Actually, I would too. I heard it, briefly, while friends were playing it. One picked out "Dueling Banjos". I sounded pretty good. It's gone now. I gave (well, sold it, really) it to my friend, who's going to give it to a business associate. If I ever build another, I'll be sure to Get a video

I visit your blog pretty often, have you finished your kitchen yet? The concrete counters were coming along nicely.Carl La Fong wrote:So, you're the oneElvis wrote:Very nice, I saw it on your blog.

I got sidetracked during the holidays. I ordered some more countertop mix yesterday, so I'll be back on track next week

Hi Carl,
I read it too - over here in good ole England. That is a beautiful instrument - a rare talent you have. (Did that sound a bit like Yoda?).
Waiting for teh next episode of the countertop saga too.

Indeed John, that one of the most bestest things is the Blues played on guitar… 'ceptin' the blues played on a cigar box guitar!
And then you gone done MADE yet another example of one fine instrument of that time!
Nice!!

Re: Latest Project
The harmonica project is moving along nicely. Boring the air holes through the little pips was problematic. I was able to solve the issue by constructing a crude EDM machine from a Sportster magneto, a Maglite and an old vibrator. Inserting the reeds was also difficult, but I fabricated a patent pending jig and pushed them in with my 80 ton press. Because of the precise tooling and tolerances, it will cover 3 octaves, two of which are inaudible to the human ear. All the fittings are made from a rare alloy that I concocted in my shop from grinder dust and lathe shavings. It is in a fitted case made from hand choked baby panda leather. Getting into the zoo enclosure at midnight is a bitch, I gotta tell you.SQ4MN wrote:He is now making a harmonica out of a couple of DOMINOES for the Smithsonian!
Pictures to follow later
The Queen's Royal Guard has contacted me to make a dozen douchebag bagpipes for her pipers. Should be an interesting project
