I have a potential theory on design here. My guess is, that the suspension cable of the saw has enough insulating qualities to it, that it would render no problems if the line itself made brief contact with the power lines. Although the saw blades 'seem' metal… is it possible that they too are a composite material that would endure a 'line contact'? Or, if not grounded at all… the metal saw blades can 'touch' the power lines without harm. Although, it certainly requires some pretty monumental piloting skills to have a virtual ball on a string pendulously hanging below the helicopter.

I'm thinking that such a pilot would have the kind of experience that Vietnam Pilots had.

Good points Ric. I was thinking that they may have some sort of quick release for emergency's as well.
