Ron and I went to the Meteorite Crater east of Flagstaff. I thought it was pretty neat but not sure it was worth the $16 each to get in.
This is a piece of the meteorite.
The crater.
This is in the center of the crater. There is a hole and machinery where people had tried to dig up the meteorite that they were sure was buried underground.
Hiking to a spot to see the evidence of an underground explosion caused by the meteorite strike.

Another picture of the crater.
This is a mound near the creater and there is a doorway in it. Our tour guide said that it had been used to store supplies.
After the crater we took Hwy 87 south from I-40. It was a really neat ride.

Today we rode around Prescott, Jerome and Sedona. More gorgeous sights.
These are old buildings from a mining operation near Jerome, AZ
An abandoned railroad line for the mine.
We stopped at a view point and there was a Native American lady selling jewelry there. I love jewelry!
Here we are coming into Jerome. This is such a cool little town. Built on the side of a hill it is an old copper mining town.

I saw this thing sitting outside a building that used to be a theater, it is a gift shop now. I think it is an old projector. I couldn't believe how big it was.
Since the town is built on the side of a hill there are stairways here and there to get from one street to the next if you are walking. We climbed these stairs to get to the Haunted Hamburger restaurant for lunch. There isn't much for parking in this town and the spot we found was no where near the restaurant. Oh well, at least we got some exercise.
A building that burned down but left the shell is "dressed up" with ornate metal fencing.
This is a view of Jerome from down below.
This is some type of equipment that was used in the copper mining days.
I think this is an operational mine.
More pictures from the town.
A really old police car in Jerome.

I love the colors of the rocks near Sedona!
This house sure has an awesome view!
In Sedona we saw this old car.
We took Hwy 89A from Sedona north to Flagstaff. It was another really pretty drive.

Re: Riding in Utah
We are in Arizona now. First we rode around the Flagstaff area for a couple of days then headed for Tucson. We stopped for lunch in a small town along Hwy 17 and this guy pulled in to look at our trike. We were just as interested in his! He told us he built it himself.
The back is like a dump truck!
After spending a couple of days doing things around the Tucson home and getting oil changes for the car and the trike we decided to go goof off today. I had been wanting to go to Chiricahua National Park but the weather had not cooperated before. Today was a perfect day to make the ride out there. We stopped in Willcox for gasoline and lunch. We found this neat little diner called The Dining Car so that is where we went.
After getting lunch and gasoline we headed for the park.
It was a really neat park!!

Here are more pictures of Chiricahua National Park.
Here is one of the many trails in the park.
Ron climbed to the highest part of the view point so I wanted to take his picture and this is how he responds!
The rock formations here are amazing.
Another path. The rocks make "natural" stairs but they put in the metal handrail to help people get up and down the path.

More pictures of the awesome rock formations in Chiricahua National Park.
Found some wildlife out in the park. This little guy is about twice the size of the ones we had seen in the Moab area.
Chiricahua Park is literally out in the middle of nowhere but by golly we had cell phone service! Here is Ron on his cell doing business while I photograph him and the scenery.

A view from another spot in Chiricahua National Park.
I love the flowers out here.
This is the view from the road riding back toward the enterance of the park.
This rock formation is called the Sea Captain.
I didn't remember that they grew cotton out here in Arizona.
Not sure I have ever seen a corn field with mountains in the background.
