Speedo not working.

Post by rocketsteve »

Unsure if there's anyone around to help with this but here goes...
Had the fuel tank re-shaped/enlarged and in the process of having a new dashboard made so I've noted all the wires on the back of every gauge and temporarily fitted the old dashboard back on the tank.
So everything works except the Speedo, the Speedo hand sweeps over and back again with ignition on, the mileage and trip numbers are all there. All 5 back lightbulbs work.
There are 2 wires coming out the back of the Speedo that I cannot figure out what they're for;
1 orange (looks like a receiver maybe?) and 1 purple that's not connected to anything.
Any ideas guy's?

Check if these cables go down to the speed sensor at your front pulley

Thanks Peter, that might be the purple wire ~ I'll need to empty out the tank and take it off to check.
Will report back when that's done. ;-)

Well, check at the sensor first an see if it is still properly attached.
I also found that it is better to run the cable along the frame not to close to the distributor. Source for erratic readings

Excellent advice - as always, it was that Purple wire, which for some strange reason I'd blanked off on my extended loom up to the new clock consol.
What a total idiot I am!!! - all is working fine now.
Thanks again. :-)

Will do Peter, just waiting for the Laser Cutter to finish the clock console...
