Brake light - again!

Post by rocketsteve »

FrontBrake2.JPG
So now I've found the front brake light isn't working, back brake light works so it's not the bulb, checked fuse box but all looks okay there, checked the book and also the BIG BOOK but no guidance there.
I've taken the bottom plate off the reservoir and can see a micro switch but that looks like it's screwed in from inside the brake fluid bowl... and the two microswitch wires running through the bars are too short to give me any slack to turn the unit upside down to work on.

Do I have to empty out the brake reservoir bowl?
Is there an easy way of checking the switch function?

An update:
I've looked inside the bowl and see we have a single locating pin on one side and a tiny screw retainer on the other side.

I've also connected both micro switch terminals with a wire and the Brake light works so I know it's the switch to replace.

Question now is - where the hell do I get one of these tiny switches, can's see any details on it without using a Magnifying glass and it looks like "othersey" ???

This is one of Tom's Mountain Hosses and don't imagine he'd change the switch spec. from standard 2006 ZZ4...

If you are on the other forum go there and type in "Front brake light switch" and read my post on this. I replaced my unreliable microswitch years ago with a banjo bolt setup per Harold Blocker's recommendation and it's been perfect ever since. Easy to do and no issues.

Looks like my membership with BHRA has lapsed so I've re-registered.
Anyway, I get the idea of the Banjo Pressure switch and will order one from Goodridge UK.
BL775-03C ~ 3/8" x 24 JIC looks like the UK part.
Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I believe the one I got for my 2009 was J&P part #240-913, Mfr part #PBL77544CH for 7/16"x24 - 12mm banjo. Yours may or may not be the same. Also order the rubber boot for a cleaner finished look. One of the posts has a pic of my finished job.
