Blowing Modules in distributor

Post by CanuckHoss »

Customer has a 502, actually Ric Mossip's 502 and in the last year has gone through 4 modules which I find uncommon as in the last 18 years I have had 5...some SB and a couple BB

Thoughts???

My module blew after fixing a problem elsewhere - when I failed to connect the twin wire Tacho lead under the tank.

Possible surge or something related to wiring / connections in that area?

Maybe the key switch is on and the engine is not running or it’s getting voltage in the accessory position. There are some modules that cannot handle voltage if distributor is not spinning. It should only have voltage seconds before you hit the starter. Just a thought.

Barry, that's not what happens when you shut the bike off at the key instead of the kill switch is it? Where while the alternator is still spinning with current and it back feeds to the module. Or is that what happens to the solenoid?
