Starter
Starter
Since we moved to Florida I haven't had a chance to ride my Boss so it's been sitting although I have kept the battery charged . I tried t o start it today and when I hit the starter button all I hear is clicking from the starter. I haven't gotten into it yet but I did check the battery and it shows over 13 volts so I don't think it's the battery . I don't think it's the sarter relay either because I don't think the starter would click like it does if the relay was bad . Seems more likely I've got a bad connection somewhere but like I said , I haven't gotten into it yet . I appreciate any suggestions however . HELP !
This move to Florida has got my head and body fucked up but slowly we are getting settled and looking forward to letting the good times roll .

Re: Starter
I’d be looking at the battery terminals to check they are tight. Then the big concert on the starter motor.
Re: Starter
A good ground is also very important, it connects to the block, on the back of the transmission housing. I have a use but working Chrome starter from my BB. if interested

Re: Starter
Jack, with the key off try jumping the
2 big terminals on the starter. This will
tell you if your starter is working right.
What about the starter relay???
Sometimes those things just take
a crap and don't work. The old site has
some good info on them, IMHO.

Re: Starter
Also, put a meter on the battery and hit the start button. Just cause it shows 13V doesn't mean it's ok. See the voltage drop when hitting the start button.

My Powermaster starter has two terminals , one large and one small , that's it .Paul H wrote:Jack, with the key off try jumping the

Re: Starter
Thanks for the advise , turnEd out to be faulty starter itself , having it rebuilt Monday.
Re: Starter
Damn, my BB is doing the same thing. I was hoping to hear better news. Maybe I will see if Norm still has the one he posted about.

Re: Starter
A lot cheaper to just have your current starter rebuilt.
Re: Starter
I've never had one rebuilt, but I'll look into it. Thanks.
