Starter relay?

Post by randy burkey »

Key on , in neutral, push start button...nothing.Not even a click.. Then after a few tries it spins over and starts..maybe button on handlebar? or try relay first?

Yes starter relay. I was gonna say
check that the kill button is on but
you said it's kinda of a now and then thing.

I'd also check the connections on the starter itself , could be loose or corroded.

I'd check the ground for the relay, check continuity for the start button wiring. But, more than likely your relay is the culprit.

Had the same problem on my old Harley. Turn the key on and everything lights up, but wouldn't even try to crank. Found the positive terminal on the battery was so corroded it was down to a few strands of wires. Had voltage, but couldn't pull any amps. That one drove me nuts for weeks since the voltmeter wouldn't help.

I had a similar problem with the starter. The reason was that the crimp connection of the positive connector at the battery was completely loose to the cable. It just fell off as we tested the screws on the battery.
Fixed that, and all was good...

You got that right! Put the Harley aside and ride the BOSS more often. LOL! You know I'm just messing with you Randy. Are we going to see you and Dawn in September in Dyersburg?
