F.A.S.T. EFI for older bikes and trikes

Post by CanuckHoss »

As most know we did the Holley Sniper on my 502 Bigblock trike and to make it fit we had to remove heads to change the intake to a lower deck height.

Even after that we still turned the EFI 90 degrees clockwise to make it fit...all the cables pull at the front.

it is an awesome system and we stuck with it all the way because my Tech Jason wanted Holley as he thought and read it was the best..we chose good.

BUT NOW...I have a 2009 SB trike that has low miles but the Factory Marine EFI is giving me tons of grief and we have tried everything to diagnose without a solution. The trike is sold so I needed to either put a carb or find an EFI.

So Saturday the tank came off and we were thinking Sniper and a lower intake again..lots of work and more expense.

Yesterday I called Bill at the factory and asked if he thought the F.A.S.T. they are using on the 383 stroker motors might fit the older bikes and trikes. He thought they would.

So today I stopped in and bought this Master Kit:

http://www.speedwaymotors.com/FAST-3022 ... 52151.html

....and gave it to Jason and left it with him to see if it would fit without a new intake..he called a bit later and IT FITS!!!!! YES!!!!

So I will keep you all up to date on how this goes. May be a bit harder install due to already having an EFI as opposed to a carb conversion like my 502 trike was.

I am super bloody excited because if this works as easy and cheap as I think I have more sales for a simple dump the carb and install an EFI unit. I think Lafong is quite anxious to get a system that fits and works after his grief.

As far as the Reserve tank I am again making the EFI run off the Main tank ONLY. The EFI draws from the Main and returns to the Main only. When I want the fuel from the Reserve there is a pump I turn on, open the fuel petcock and then it is 4 miles / 4 minutes highway miles to get the complete Reserve into the Main tank.

STAY TUNED!!

Keep a good thought for us as this could be huge for older carburated bikes. A good working EFI is just to cool not to have.

if this works I may have to find someone in Florida to convert the 32 Coupe I have sitting there to it...until then we get'r'done here.

Depending on how busy we get at the shop..customers come first before me...it possibly could be running by the end of the week and I can have some seat time before I head to Biketoberfest.

The Factory seems to have sold a lot of/at least several new bikes and trikes with the F.A.S.T. EFI. I find it amazing/interesting that no one has reviewed one of these units. A ride report. Anything? Where are these people? Maybe I missed a post someplace?

They must be new into Boss Hoss and nobody sends them this way.

There are a shitload of V8 riders who don't even know the other Forum exists either...well it kind of doesn't..lol...you know what I mean.

Some installed pics...there is lots of wiring from the Marine EFI that needs to be cleaned up.

if you click on the picture after it opens it will expand / close up then you can scroll around for a close up view.

If that is what is on my 2009 ZZ4 350 385 horse from factory then yes...if you are asking about something different I don't know.

Jason said that this is the spread bore manifold...this trike just had the shitty 2 barrel Marine EFI on it...this F.A.S.T. should waken that 385 motor up..Anxious to see seat of the pants dyno and what it does.

I saw these kits the other week while flicking through the net. The kit seems to be well priced. Is it a straight swap for any carb or is an adaptor required. As I know very little about anything !! Is it cable operated or fly by wire. Really fancy this kit. No idea what a spread bore manifold is ??
Thanks

It is a simple remove carb and plunk down the EFI throttle body. It is cable operated exactly like the carb or Factory Marine EFI.

We will have a bit more work due to it being EFI before. we won't know about the gauges working until we get it back together but should not be an issue because we left all the Marine EFI in place except for the throttle body..Someone with a carb will be a bit less work to install..

All of our carbureted bikes should have come, from the factory, with Quadrajet carburetor. They are referred to as a "spread bore". Two small primary venturies, and two large secondaries. I can see that the FAST system has four, equal sized butterflies. I was wondering if the FI body has several bolt patterns or would I need an adaptor plate to marry it to my spread bore manifold. Evidently, I do not.
I'm liking this more and more

I may have stumbled upon something that will be quite popular.

It is all buttoned up as of an hour ago. 3 of my guys rode it for a few minutes each..I took it on the highway for 10 minutes...and said they loved it...awesome idle...throttle response blows the other EFI away and it goes better..seat of the pants...that is 4 of us saying that.

I will post just an idling video soon.

I am going to go out tomorrow for a couple hours and see how it overall performs...check gas milage too.

So far it looks like the cat's ass and answer for the older SB and BB.

I need to fly Jason to Daytona and have him install on the Red Coupe..he said it would not be a problem as he knows exactly what to take with him.. and less than 8 hour job.

First real ride. Went 140 miles today.

Runs like a TOP!!!!!

Money well spent...I hope next week gives me another day to put more miles as in a week I leave for Biketoberfest and when I am back Oct 26th chance of getting any riding are slim but still a chance.

Looks like a good bit of kit. There are other videos on YouTube of this kit being fitted.

I have no idea what Mountain is doing, but Grand Canard installed a FAST system on his SS in 2011, and he commented as early as 2008 that more than a few Boss Hosses were using the FAST system.
