I installed the Speed Hut GPS speedo on my 04 SB and love it.

Routed the pickup cable down the left side of the frame to stay away from the alternator noise. Mounted the pickup under the seat pan towards the rear, just above the rear fender.

It works first time every time. Speed Hut set the odometer to match the old electronic speedo. I did build a custom bezel to make it fit.

Here is a video of the conversion;

I did build a couple of extra bezels if you need one.

Mark

while researching the speedhut gps speedos I see that they are very careful to state that their units are NOT waterproof. so I am concerned about washing, getting caught riding in rain, etc. any thoughts :ohthedrama:

True, they are not water proof. I put a shower cap on mine when I wash it. Also, have driven through some heavy rain with the bike on the back of the truck with no damage.

Speedhut, will for a small fee, apply sealent that will
make it a little more water prof, but not totally water prof.
They will also shorten the antenna wire so it's more
fitting to a motorcycle.

good news....I ordered the speedhut gr4.5-gps-02 today.
it requires a 4.5" panel hole (just what I have) so no bezel needed. it is the 0-160 version. they have many to choose from. the bezel unscrews so I can make a nice (thin) gasket to go b/t the bezel & glass for waterproofing. i'll see if I can also put one b/t the glass & the speedo. while waiting for shpmt i'll fab a small bracket to fit b/t w'shield & headlight for the small antenna. antenna has magnetic base. I may relocate the antenna later to hide it. I noticed today that my "new" speedo drive gear broke off the little tab that drives it just like the last one did. maybe if i'd lube the cable once a year like Jack does I could stay mechanical but i''m terrible on pm. thanks for all the input. Lincoln.

the -02 is 0-140.

In a word, reliability. My 04 SB kept having speedo problems, where the reading would just quit when riding down the street. Switched it out to a Speedhut speedo and not one problem since.

I would say if your stock speedo is not giving problems, there is no reason to change it.

amen to reliability. all my problems were related to all the bends in the cable and my neglect to lube it like Hogv8(jack) who lubes his annually. my needle would bounce and the drive gear tab on front axle bent to disengagement once and broke another time requiring replacement. like mark says "if no probs, leave it alone". my speedhut is working great. I put the antenna under the seat like mark did. it's a costly alternative to doing a little maintenance. it gives digital speed, time, compass heading, peak speed, trip odo, 1/4 mile time, & more. I didn't get the craft beer brewing option cause then i'd want the refrigerated minikeg also and i'd rather just stop w/ everyone else at the watering hole. lincoln
