Tilting body.

Post by knockdolian »

Well I finally got around to making some hinges to get my body to tilt. Pretty straightforward in the end. I’ve got the struts and will fit them over Christmas. Thanks to all who supplied photos to give me an idea.

Didn’t think anyone would be interested. Only posted it because I felt quite pleased with myself. It’ll make fitting the Air Ride easier which I’m collecting Sunday

Air ride just in time for a Merry Christmas
to you. I'm sure many would be interested
in just how you made your lift kit. Close ups
would be nice. Then we can pick apart your
design, LOL. Maybe see some improvements
for the next guy.

I'm curious on how you were able to keep your tailpipes still exiting at the rear of the body. ALL of the tilt-bodies I have seen in the past had to exit their exhaust out the side due to interference with the tailpipes hitting the body when fully extended in the open position. Looks to be a fine job. Like Paul, I too, would like to see some close-up photos. Again, NICE JOB!

What a day ?? Started out with all good intentions. I went in to fit the struts which I bought from Boss Hoss. No matter wher I put them they would not work. They are 17” extended. Just too short. I had a longer set but are too soft. It will act as a template.
The hinges are 2” angle iron with a 14mm hole for the hinge. I ondid the back body bolts to lift the body enough to get the jubilee clips between body and frame. This is just temporary. They will be bolted on once I’m happy with everything else.
As for the exhaust. I guess I got lucky as it misses the body when up. If anyone else has this mod what size are your struts ?

I just got a new camera for Christmas. My last one died. I'll post pic's of my tilt setup in a few days. I gotta admit I like this burly setup much better, though mine is doing its job rather nicely these days.

Great work, Paul (Knockdolian)!

I have two trikes with tilt bodies BOTH exiting the rear..they are just short enough to miss when the body is tilted...you can see my yellow 57 in Daytona SOON!!!

I have lots of pics of hinges on mine

I bolted everything up today and the tail pipes stick out the rear of the body with many 5mm clearance whit the body fully up. Just waiting for new struts. Gone for long ones. 700mm so watch this space.
