A VERY SERIOUS QUESTION.

Post by V8 Perv »

I recently had a Pacemaker/Defibrillator installed and have some people warning me that maybe I shouldn't
ride a trike as the electrical currents produced by the coil and alternator could interfere with its operation and
possibly cause me to receive an unwanted shock from the device. I would think with the aging group of riders
I can't be the only one with a pacemaker and would welcome knowing who else rides after their implant.

If I find out I can't ride I swear I will make them remove it as I never really believed I needed it in the first place.
I still think it was a case of my insurance company still having some money left.

REALLY?? What does your surgeon/cardiologist say? :dunno:

Here is another link - looks like your device (pacemaker ;) ) should be 12 inches away from the motorcycle/car ignition system. Just make sure you sit up nice and straight :D and you should be good to go!!! :ridding:

[quote="Iron Maiden"]REALLY?? What does your surgeon/cardiologist say? :dunno:

Right before I was discharged from the hospital a representative from the company that builds the unit visited me and cleared me for release. I showed him photos and a video of my trike and explained exactly where the coil and alternator where located. When I asked him if that was a problem he wouldn't give me an answer as he said he wasn't qualified to give that advise.

I will have my 1 week follow up exam this Thursday and I will press harder for some answers. I suspect everyone is reluctant to give answers in this lawsuit happy country we live in.

Susan thank you so much for your reply!

Hey Bill thanks for the reply! I know one guy that rides a Harley Ultra and gets along just fine with his unit BUT
since we ride right on top of a high performance coil on a V8 I would like to explore this a little further.

The rep for the company told me they have a hand held device they can measure levels of magnetic field and maybe I can get them to bring one to Des Moines.
Thanks again for the reply!!

The early Corvettes has a sheet metal shroud over the distributor and wires for radio suppression. I suppose a good tin knocker could make up one.
I recall a scene from one of the "Rocky" movies.
Adrian sez, "The doctor said you shouldn't fight anymore."
Rocky replies, "Da doctor said he recommended I don't fight. I recommend dat I do."

Ron,

I think this is your answer. While it might hamper your ability to attract chicks to sit on your bike, that's probably too taxing on your pacemaker anyway.........
