BEWARE: Auto Detailing Spray
This is not a knock on the product, as it is great! I've used it on my car for more than 10 years, BUT... I made the mistake of applying Maguire's detailing spray to my Boss Hoss '57 Chevy trike. It dulled the finish. I followed-up by washing it with dishwashing soap. It appears to have helped a lit...

Resolved: Boss Hoss Motorcycle Fuel Gauge Stuck on Full
How to correct a stuck analog fuel gauge: Step 1: Disconnect the speedometer cable from the front wheel. If you cannot, skip to Step 2. Note: I used a small Dremel tool to cut the screw threads off the speedometer cable sheath where it meets the speedometer sending unit's gear housing on the front w...

Resolved: Carbureted ZZ4 350 High Idle and Hard Starts
Symptoms: - Exhaust pops on quick deceleration - High idle (1,200 RPM range instead of 800), and it wouldn't settle down - Harder than usual starts (high quality, low mileage "Carburetor Mike" tuned Edelbrock 1901, so no reason this should occur) - Mechanical knock (louder than a lifter ti...

Loose Triple Tree Fork Bolts: Crisis Averted
Symptoms: - Slight pull to the right on even surfaces - Windscreen slightly higher on the right side, noticeably crooked - Right side steering damper fork tube clamp higher than usual - Front tire visually misaligned when parked and fork was straightened (strangely, no unusual wobble at any speed) R...

Re: Trike Cutting Off
This happened to me twice a few years back with my 2001 carbureted Boss Hoss '57 Chevy trike. The first time was caused by a loose wire terminal on the bottom of the fuel pump. Vibrations were causing intermittent contact. I removed it, crimped is a wee bit, and then pushed it back onto the post. It...

Issue resolved: it was a cracked rubber cap on an unused vacuum port on the front of the carburetor. I had a spare cap in a rebuild kit.

Resolved: Carbureted Chevy 350 ZZ4 Sudden High Idle
Forum key word searches are coming up empty, so I'm opening a new thread. My 2001 carbureted ZZ4 Boss Hoss started idling high this morning. Whether in park or idling in gear at a traffic signal, the idle has been around 1k RPM's instead of in the neighborhood of 650. The unit is a Carburetor Mike S...

Still riding my 2001 ZZ4 Boss Hoss every day in the Arizona desert, though the temperature climbs as high as 118F (sometimes a wee bit higher) not counting the heat index. Our 100+ months are March through October on our little patch of sand.

Resolved: Two Boss Hoss ZZ4 Coolant Leaks
I recently resolved two mystery coolant leaks on my 2001 ZZ4 Boss Hoss that I originally thought was a single problem. About 5 minutes after I'd shut off the trike after a normal run, I'd see a slight drip directly below the alternator. Approximately 10 minutes later, I'd go back into the garage and...

Replaced King Cobra H4 Halogen Headlight with LED
This weekend, I replaced my aftermarket King Cobra headlight assembly's H4 halogen low/high beam bulb with a Xenotoo 2023 Upgraded H4 LED. As advertised, it was a direct plug-in replacement with no issues regarding the slightly increased length (about 1/4 inch longer than the original bulb). I made ...

Resolved: Remove Stubborn King Cobra 7" Headlight Trim Ring
I recently replaced the bulb in my King Cobra 7" diameter headlight assembly. The primary dress-up ring is concealed and is not external to the bucket. After removing the tiny set screw from underneath the bucket, trying to press my thumbs against the ring to force it to turn was an exercise in...

Resolved: 2001 ZZ4 Boss Hoss Headlight Low Beam not Working
My 2001 ZZ4 Boss Hoss recently had an issue with the headlight low beam intermittently working, sometimes at startup and sometimes not at all. It would also grow dim and then dark at times. The correctly rated fuse would never blow, indicating no electrical short; and the intermittent operation was ...

Back on the Road and the Forum
Life has been a wild ride since late 2019 and even wilder since the "C-Bug" tried to kill me in July 2020. That, and a slew of nit-picky little Hoss repairs (mostly electrical) and two upgrades have kept me down for a good, long while. I finally got back on the road two weeks ago. The two ...

My mysterious 2001 Boss Hoss ZZ4 crankshaft to alternator belt problems appear to have been resolved. Re: Early 2000's Boss Hoss Rewire Questions
It looks like this might be in the right ballpark:
NTE Electronics 25-B600-20 Series Terminal Block Barrier Strip, Dual Row Panel Mount, 25 Amp, 20 Pole, 11.00 mm Pitch, 300V, 22-12 AWG Wire Range
The photo is of a 10 pole version. The site didn't have a pic of the 20 pole.

Early 2000's Boss Hoss Rewire Questions
Has anyone here rewired their early 2000's Boss Hoss? Are there any parts or tips that you can recommend, such as blocks/harnesses/printed wire sets that state the function of the wire (not a gauge legend), like on the factory wires? One major pain I would like to eliminate is the 3 or 4 large block...

Steering Head - Pinch Bolts Torque Spec BH SBC
What is the torque specification for the triple tree bolts that secure the inverted fork tubes on a SB Boss Hoss (early 2000's)? Based on an old thread I found from 2003 on the v8bikeriders forum, it looks like the factory spec. is 55 ft-lbs for the steering head (pinch bolts). The thread is a littl...
