Re: It's Alive! IT'S ALIVE!!! MU-A-HAHAHAHA!!!

I've ordered replacement rear turn signals from J&P Cycles. I'll chop up a spare alternator bracket I have laying around to replace the turn signal bracket that snapped off.

Re: It's Alive! IT'S ALIVE!!! MU-A-HAHAHAHA!!!

The Hoss is still plenty road worthy. It just has one turn signal out back. My irritation has passed.

It's almost like the forces of the universe are trying to tell me to just get rid of the thing.

Grumble, grumble, grumble...

Whine, whine, whine...

Re: It's Alive! IT'S ALIVE!!! MU-A-HAHAHAHA!!!

SON OF A B#$%H!!! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THIS ULTRA-CURSED PIG??????? While riding home this evening, the left rear turn signal mounting tab (0.125 inch thick WELDED L-shaped bracket) decided it would just snap for no good reason. The rear bullet turn signal housing flopped into the road, bound...

The more I think about it, the more I'm tempted to declare this a (slightly) warped rotor.

Re: Time to Clean the Front Dual Brake Calipers

This video perfectly illustrates what I was getting from my front wheel when it was off the ground and I turned it by hand. No bearing noise as the video title seems to suggest, but brake rubbing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qArTl1kdb5E I have since cleaned the brakes, but it appears to have had...

Re: Time to Clean the Front Dual Brake Calipers

Also... there are 10 Bobbins holding each disc to the inner disc mounting plate. These Bobbins keep the disc floating and need cleaning out with Disc Cleaner as they get bunged up with pad and road grime then stop the discs from floating. My BH is bagged for the winter now so I can't see the front ...

Re: Time to Clean the Front Dual Brake Calipers

Cleaning the brakes didn't solve the mystery of the hot right rotor. It still heats up more than the left. At least it's not changing colors from the heat, and it cools down quickly.

This is almost shaping up to be something I'm just going to have to live with.

Nabbed by the California Highway Patrol...Kind Of...

I wasn't paying attention and crossed the border from Arizona into California without a helmet. My passenger wasn't wearing a helmet, either. CHP lit me up as soon as I crossed! Oops! I've been on that route a thousand times in a car over the past 20 years, so I didn't give it a second thought on th...

Re: Time to Clean the Front Dual Brake Calipers

The tiny dark dots turned out to be stubborn road grime.

The pistons retracted nicely after I re-attached the caliper then inserted the pads. Everything went back together with no trouble at all! I love these Wilwood quick-change calipers!

Will road-test later.

Re: Time to Clean the Front Dual Brake Calipers

The pistons extended a few millimeters (maybe 3/32 of an inch?) when I started scrubbing them with mild soap and hot water. They look pitted (tiny dark dots) around the areas that were exposed when they extended. So small it's hard to tell for sure. Likely normal abrasions from regular use?

Re: Resolved: Tachometer Light Stopped Working

The issue is resolved. It was a dry rotted crack in the insulation that was arcing (or grounding? - whichever) on the frame. This whole trike needs to be rewired. It has not aged well for whatever reasons. The wiring on a Boss Hoss is not complicated. Mine is earlier than yours. All the wires are b...

Soaking the trike's right front brake caliper in some scalding soapy water (dish soap). Will take a toothbrush to the brake pistons soon.

I love these Wilwood quick release rotors! It makes getting the pads out and removing the rotors a breeze! Only a few seconds.

Re: I Think The Handlebar Start Switch is Dying

This appears to be resolved. After reassembling the controls last night, the trike fired right up without any fuss. I took a short ride to the local convenince store. It fired up without any hestation there, too. And again this morning, it roared to life in the cool weather without any coaxing or pa...

Time to Clean the Front Dual Brake Calipers

Now that I have addressed/corrected a few minor (i.e. not very time-consuming) issues, the time has come to pull off the front brake calipers and clean them. I will start with the right side since I suspect it is dragging. The right rotor heats up more than the left, and I hear an occasional metalli...

Re: I Think The Handlebar Start Switch is Dying

Open up the switch housing and give it a good spray of WD40. I opened it a hair too much. Lost the tiny screw and washer that connect the switch set to the inside of the housing. I had to make do with a close enough match from my grab pile of random screws. No idea where on earth the original rocke...
